In recent years, some countries have been approved and implemented laws
that seek to regulate and even completely eliminate the smoke of tobacco in
shared public spaces. Though there are less than one-sixth of the world's
people protected under these laws, every day its implementation becomes wider. In
Europe, smokers have seen more reduced spaces each day.
Far from saying that this is a bad thing, it's quite the opposite!
Recent studies by the University of Edinburgh, UK, together with researchers
from the University of Maastricht, the Netherlands; Hasselt University in Bélgica
and Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital in the United
States, has demonstrated that the implementation of these laws has
significantly decreased premature birth and asthma attacks in infants. Also
these restrictions have forced smokers to reconsider and put into question
theirs bad habit, in addition to the consequences that smoking produces in
their health and the health of those around them.
And while smokers cause great harm to the health of others, we know that
they are the biggest victims of this addiction. It has been proven over the
years, that quit smoking is not easy, smokers live a pretty hard process of giving
up smoking. At the view of this situation, the electronic cigarette has been
presented as an "alternative" that seeks to help the smoker quit
smoking through the progressive elimination of the quantities consumed of nicotine,
and in turn, prevent those around them from being contaminated by the tobacco
and other harmful substances in cigarette smoke.
On the other hand, we have the economic aspect that has brought these
bans, the tobacco industry, which is one of the biggest revenue generators in
the world, has started competing strongly with this unexpected rival: The electronic cigarette. At first, when the prohibitions were still fresh, the
consequences or the decrease in sales was not appreciated, but over time the
proposals presented by WHO have been complying "If smokers can not smoke
on their way to work, at work, in shops, banks, restaurants and other public
places, are going to smoke less ... "
In order to truly erradicate the smoke of tobacco and its terrible
consequences it is important to be rational, and by this we mean to be rational
at all. We have to be honest; if a smoker is forced to leave the cigarette one
day to another, this simply will not happen. Cigarettes addiction is a real
illness and it has an abstinence syndrome too. So, more than defend the use of
the electronic cigarette we must to recognize the right of smokers to have a
nontraumatic quitting process, but using a device that does not generate damage
to the health of others, as it is proven that water vapor that emanate the e
cigs not contain substances harmful to health.
The appropriate, intelligent and responsible use of these devices can
substantially benefit the health of the smoker and those around him, until it
became innocuous since there are eliquids that do not contain nicotine in their composition. It's good that both,
smokers and non-smokers, people who are near smokers know more about these
devices because, a smoker who quit, it means that they will too. Definitely
buying, and encourage smokers to buy and try an electronic cigarette is a great
contribution to reach the goal of no more tobacco smoke in public places, a
realistic contribution with an honest and real dimension.
